Not all that newlyweds want to exclude kids from their wedding. Many are happy to welcome kids into their wedding both as members of the wedding ceremony party and as guests.
Having children at a wedding party, still, poses a myriad of problems. Do you leave the youngsters to their own devices and hope they are good and don’t get under your feet? Do you provide a room with childcare so they’re “present” but not too much under foot? Maybe the best solution is a simple mix of both, with a sprinkle of fun built in.
Initially, if kids are invited to the wedding, take into account the ages of the youngsters. Babies will have to stay with mom and/or dad, for an assortment of reasons. So planning to have all the children in another room may not be feasible. But if the youngsters are tots up to about age 12, you can give some other room for them with childcare and a make a number of activities available to them.
If the youngsters will be in a different room at the reception dinner, you can provide a coloring table, perhaps a television with a fitting movie ready to roll, and some board games. That could probably be sufficient all through the wedding reception. Be conscious of a few things: there ought to be a ratio of at least 1 adult for every 5 children if the kids are infants, or 1 adult to every 10 children if the children are older. Don’t expect the children to take up the activities on their own, but rather tell the childcare provider to get the kids involved in the activities by doing them him or herself.
What if the children will be associated with the reception festivities? What pursuits can be geared only to youngsters at the reception dinner? There are loads of things you can do, really. You can certainly plan a coloring table in the back of the reception hall or room. There, you can give many paper, coloring books, markers and crayons. Paints are not advised, for obvious reasons, and mothers will give thanks if you remember to supply the kids with washable markers and crayons only.
The art table may be more than merely coloring, although. Buy a vast bag of pipe cleaners. Children can amuse themselves for long periods of time, making animals, odd figures and the like. Make certain you have at least 20 or more pipe cleaners for each child, although, as children can do go through these rapidly. Think about “clean” clay, the new items that don’t stay on anything and do not leave a mark on furniture. With a few different colors, children can create a selection of figures, faces or forms.
A few brids preferred to plan more formally for their small guests. There are a few options if this is the route you want to take. One popular option is to have paid entertainment available just for the kids. This can take place in some other room or toward the back of the reception room or hall if it is big and your guest list is big. You can engage a clown or a balloon artist. You can have someone braid the kids hair and offer short term tattoos. If there is a different room available, you can also engage a children’s musician to come and entertain the kids. The choices are limitless.
If no plans are made for the youngsters, but they arrive at the marriage ceremony expecting entertainment, you will have to make some plans. One option is a “child only” dance, that lets only the children on the dance floor. This is not only cute to watch, and might be entertaining as well, but it will bring a smile to the face of every grandma and grandpa present.
